WELCOME TO WASPS U11s - 2008/09 SEASON The new season starts on Sunday 7th September, check back in August for full details Welcome To the Wasps FC Minis Under 11s. After a great seasons rugby last year we hope to build on this and offer our players a safe, enjoyable rugby experience. The emphasis will continue to be one of inclusiveness and sportsmanship, encouraging good team play and an understanding of the game, rather than a win-at-all-costs attitude.
Season The season kicks off from Sunday 7th September and runs through until late April with short breaks for Christmas & Easter. Training is at Twyford Avenue with fixtures home and away every 2-3 weeks. A tour is planned for May 2009 Registration & Subscription Registration will be via the Wasps FC website. Subscriptions are as follows, a slight increase from last year as our facilities improves year on year
Numbers within the Under 11’s will be capped at 45 or as determined by the head coach. Returning players will be given first preference to rejoin prior to opening up to new members. Returning players should rejoin by the 1st day of the new season (7th September) to safeguard their place. All players (even those on a taster session) are required to complete an RFU membership form. Child Protection All volunteers are required to go through a Criminal Records Bureau check, and the Minis have a dedicated Child Protection Officer. If you have any concerns over the treatment of your child or another child please escalate the matter immediately. Either to one of the coaches, myself or if you prefer to the CPO Helen Langley. helenlangley@mac.com
Squads We plan to run a squad system this year with A & B squads of approx 20 & 25 players. We will however try and ensure the same level of coaching and equipment for both squads. We feel that a streamed approach benefits all children. It sees the more able/experienced players challenged by playing at a higher level and less able or newcomers able to succeed at a level better suited to their capabilities. We plan to split the squad into the 2 groups at the end of September with a monthly review and promotion/demotion. The coaches will attempted to explain why a child has been moved up or down. Selection will be based on Ability, Enthusiasm, Attendance and Sportsmanship.
Laws At Under 11 the game moves to 12-a-side with kicking allowed. The key changes from Under 10 are Addition of 2 extra lock forwards to make 5 forwards Addition of 1 extra full back to make 7 backs Game restarts with drop kick, and have conversions after tries Kicking out of hand (no fly hacking) is allowed (albeit discouraged!) Handoffs & lifting in the line-out are not permitted
