Wasps FC Referee Section Practices

1. Coaches, players and parents  interested in becoming a referee should
contact the lead coach for their age group. Lead coaches will then pass the

names of candidates to the referee coordinator.

2. Candidates may become referees at any time but must first attend and pass

the RFU ELRA course as soon as possible and will not be permitted to referee

club matches at any age level until passing the course.

3. ELRA Courses are held by the RFU throughout the year at different locations either

as two days of a weekend or for four evenings. Wasps FC will pay for the course.

4. As part of ongoing development for ELRA referees, assessments will be done from

time to time to help referees improve. I will be available for advice either during the

assessments or any time at the club or by email at Joel.Goodman@waspsfc.co.uk

5. Referees leaving the club for any reason will need to be replaced if that causes an

age group to fall below 2 referees. Team Managers must  keep the referee coordinator

    informed of changes.

5. The Referees Section will organise training evenings at the club to help referees with

various phases of the game  such as ruck, scrum, lineout, the tackle etc.. We hope to

attract well known referees as speakers to help us improve refereeing at the club.

6. Team managers or lead coaches will appoint referees for their age group typically
from the ELRA refs qualified in that age group but in certain cases they may use

other referees from the club or a society referee if no age group referees are available

or if the competition rules require neutral referees. Please contact the London Society

of Rugby Football Union Referees (LSRFUR) on the reappointments line as

a last resort for appointment of neutral referees. The number is 020 73814710.

Note that the society will NOT appoint for U15 and below in any circumstances.

7. Referees will be expected to wear appropriate kit at club matches. Wasps FC ELRA

Referees will be provided with the Wasps FC Referee Kit.

London Society Referees will wear the society Kit.

8. Referees should become familiar with the Experimental Law Variations (ELVs)

`  introduced this year. Click Here for the ELV Guide from the RFU.

9. Referees must be familiar with the RFU Continuum for Mini/Midi and with the

U13-U19 variations as the variations change for each age group. Click here for

    Mini/Midi summary on one sheet.

10. Some  ELV's apply to the Mini/Midi section and more  to the U13-U19 section.
